Halal Tokyo
Halal Ramen in Tokyo: all 8 verified shops (2026), compared by certification, prayer space and price

The short answer
UMAMI HUNT keeps verified venue pages for 8 halal ramen shops inside Tokyo (3 in Asakusa, 2 in Shinjuku, and one each in Ebisu, Okachimachi and Akihabara). Five of them state third-party halal certification and five state a prayer space on site. "Halal" means different things at different counters, so this list is ranked by the strength of the evidence, not by taste.
How the ranking works (read this first)
The UMAMI HUNT editorial desk ranked the shops on three criteria, applied in this order. It is not a rating of flavour or service.
- Basis for "halal" — third-party certification stated > certified chain (confirm in store) > the restaurant's own statement only > halal-friendly (no certification)
- Prayer space — stated > not stated
- Price band — cheaper first (¥ < ¥¥ < ¥¥¥)
Only facts already documented on each venue page count (official sites, in-store certificates, Tabelog listings). We added no new claims here. A shop whose 2026 operating status is disputed across primary sources is left out of the ranking and listed under "Check before you go".

One line on each
- Honolu Ebisu — chicken paitan topped with spicy karaage. The Ebisu branch has held Japan Islamic Cultural Center certification since 2020. Cash only, no reservations.
- Gyumon Halal Ramen Asakusa — broth built from 20-plus wagyu cuts and seasonings; prayer room on site. Single 12:00–22:00 service (confirm before going).
- Halal Wagyu Ramen Shinjuku-tei — the A5 wagyu roast-beef bowl (¥4,500). Every ingredient down to the seasonings is certified; prayer space available.
- Ayam-Ya Okachimachi — Sri Lankan Muslim owner, Japan Halal Foundation certification, a fiery spicy-shoyu chicken soba; steps from Assalaam Mosque.
- Honolu Shinjuku-Gyoenmae — paitan from Kagoshima halal-certified chicken. Certification can differ by Honolu branch, so check the certificate at the door.
- Shunpudou (Asakusa) — A5 halal wagyu over a white broth, plus a rare halal wagyu cutlet; prayer space on site. "Halal" is the restaurant's own statement; we could not confirm a certifying body.
- NikoNiko Mazemen & Curry (Akihabara) — pork- and alcohol-free mazemen and Sri Lankan curry. Halal-friendly; no third-party certification.
Check before you go
- Naritaya (Asakusa) — a pioneer with formal certification from the Japan Islamic Center and a second-floor prayer room, but primary sources disagree about whether it is still operating in 2026, so it is not ranked here. Call ahead. The background is on the venue page.
Outside Tokyo
- Ayam-Ya Karasuma (Kyoto) — third-party certified (Malaysia Halal Corporation), prayer room, lunch only, closed Wednesdays and the 1st/3rd Tuesday. Venue page.
Before you order
"Halal-certified" and "Muslim-friendly" are not the same. Certified kitchens have been audited by a third party. Friendly kitchens promise no pork and no alcohol on the restaurant's own word, which does not cover shared fryers or utensils. If in doubt, read how to tell whether Japanese food is halal and is ramen halal? first. By area: halal restaurants in Asakusa and Shinjuku; the big picture is in our complete halal Tokyo guide.
Hours, prices and certification change. Check the "last verified" date on each venue page and confirm with the shop before you travel.
