Chicken paitan ramen — creamy broth from halal chicken simmered over 6 hours

Honolu Halal Ramen is a compact, halal-certified ramen counter tucked into a basement unit a few minutes' walk from Shinjuku-gyoenmae Station — one outpost of a small chain built specifically for Muslim travelers who don't want to gamble on a bowl in Tokyo.

The house draw is the chicken paitan: Kagoshima-raised, halal-certified chicken simmered for more than six hours until the broth turns cloudy and collagen-rich, closer in body to a tonkotsu pork broth than the clear chicken soups most ramen shops serve. This branch's own twist is the Spicy Karaage Ramen, which pairs that same broth with a mound of fried chicken for diners who want more chew alongside the noodles. The commitment to halal goes past the broth: the kitchen keeps a dedicated set of halal-only utensils and cookware that never touch pork or alcohol-derived ingredients, the soy sauce comes from one of just two breweries in Japan certified halal, and the noodles are made by Tokyo's only halal-certified noodle producer. A Muslim staff member works the kitchen, and there's a small prayer space on site — details that matter more here than the food itself for a lot of visitors.

Seating is modest — about 25 seats plus a private room for up to six — and the menu comes in English, so ordering isn't a guessing game. One practical note worth knowing before you go: it's cash only, no cards or e-money, so budget accordingly. Kitchen hours run in two shifts, roughly 11:30am–3pm and 5–9pm, with a closing day during the week, so it's worth checking the day-of hours rather than assuming it's open straight through.
