Gluten-free vegan lasagna and CBD-infused vegan sweets and drinks
Tucked into the basement of Shinjuku Marui Honkan, directly below the building's Apple Store, this compact vegan cafe is easy to walk past and worth seeking out. HealthyTOKYO opened the location in spring 2023 as its fifth Tokyo store and the first CBD cafe inside a Japanese department store, and it still runs as both a sit-down counter and a small retail corner for CBD oils and gummies, with tax-free shopping for visiting travelers.
The kitchen keeps the menu tight. The gluten-free vegan lasagna — HealthyTOKYO's most popular savory dish, built on rice noodles and soy meat in a rich tomato sauce — is what regulars order first. Panini and sandwiches, including caprese, BBQ lentil and a mock-tuna, come out toasted and crisp, and the glass case by the register usually holds a quiche alongside a rotating cheesecake or Mont Blanc. Everything on the menu, food and drink alike, can be ordered with or without a CBD infusion for a small surcharge, which makes it a low-commitment way to try it rather than buying a full bottle.
With roughly a dozen counter and two-top seats, this isn't a place to linger over a long meal, but it earns its keep as one of the few reliably open vegan breakfast spots in Shinjuku: the doors open at 8am, well ahead of most cafes in the area. Reservations can be made online through Tabelog, though walk-ins are common outside the lunch rush. Payment runs on card, e-money and QR codes (PayPay, Rakuten Pay, au PAY) rather than cash. It's a two-minute walk from Shinjuku-Sanchome Station's A1 exit, which makes it a practical stop before or after a loop through Marui's floors above.

A tiny tatami-floored diner on the Shimokitazawa backstreets where every bowl of rich, medicinal-herb ramen is 100% plant-based and built on sprouted brown rice.
A Michelin-starred soba sanctuary where the chef grows and hand-mills his own Ibaraki buckwheat into pure 100% juwari noodles — the closest a coeliac traveller comes to trustworthy Tokyo soba.
★ Gluten-free crust California pizza (vegan cheese option)
A Roppongi institution since 1996 where homesick Americans and coeliac travellers alike crowd the bar for craft beer and proper gluten-free crust pizza topped with vegan cheese.
★ Vegan 'foie gras', alt-meat dishes and vegan pizza on Isetan's dining floor
Run by CHAYA Macrobiotics on Isetan Shinjuku's 7th floor, with a large dedicated plant-based menu (vegan foie gras, alt-meat, vegan pizza, dairy-free pudding) alongside a regular Italian menu — so it is vegan-friendly, not 100% vegan. Ask staff to confirm the plant-based items.
