Asakusa — old Tokyo

The Senso-ji temple district is the place for tradition: charcoal eel, hand-cut soba, and counter tempura. It's also surprisingly inclusive, home to Japan's first halal-certified sushi (Asakusa Sushi Ken) and a gluten-free, halal tempura counter (Tempura Asakusa SAKURA).

Ginza — refined

Tokyo's most polished dining, from department-store institutions to hushed counters. Tempura Tsunahachi atop Matsuya Ginza fries Edomae-style in pure sesame oil — an accessible way into a famous name.

Shibuya & Shinjuku — energy

The city at full volume. Shibuya pairs late-night izakaya with modern halal yakiniku (Gyumon) and vegan pitas; Shinjuku ranges from halal ramen to AIN SOPH's vegan cafe. Great for groups and dietary mixes.

Toyosu, Kanda, Otsuka — for pilgrims

Worth the trip: dawn sushi at Sushi Dai in Toyosu Market, 1880s soba at Kanda Matsuya, and Michelin-celebrated ramen at Nakiryu in Otsuka.
