- Gluten-free vegan burger set & soy-meat plates with organic vegan soft serve
Rainbow Bird Rendezvous is a small, entirely vegan cafe tucked into a quiet backstreet between Nakameguro and Yutenji, where the menu — starters through dessert — never touches animal products.
The kitchen leans hard into organic sourcing: soy-meat karaage finished in a sweet-spicy Yu Lin chicken-style sauce, a springy wheat-gluten katsu-don, and a gluten-free burger set are the dishes regulars mention most, alongside rotating curries, smoothies, a seasonal vegan soft serve, and gluten-free cakes in tofu-cocoa, lemon, and raw chocolate flavors. Beyond skipping meat, dairy, honey, and refined white sugar, part of the menu also leaves out the so-called "five pungent vegetables" — garlic, onion, leeks, chives, and their relatives — a shojin-ryori-style touch that makes the cafe unusually accommodating for guests who keep stricter plant-based diets, not just standard vegan ones.
The room itself seats only a handful of tables, softly lit and quiet, staffed by people who speak in the same unhurried register as the food. A small salon in the back hosts occasional Aura-Soma color-therapy sessions, which tips the whole place toward wellness retreat rather than straightforward restaurant.
A few things worth knowing before you go: lunch runs walk-in until 17:00 last order, but dinner is reservation-only and served as a set course, so don't arrive hoping for an a la carte evening meal. The cafe closes Monday and Tuesday, and — in keeping with its scent-sensitive clientele — asks guests to skip strong perfume, cologne, or fabric softener before visiting. Both credit cards and PayPay are accepted.
